What A New EMR Means for our Community

The launch of a new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system marks a transformative moment for Howard University Hospital and the community we serve. This investment is more than a technology upgrade—it is a commitment to improving the way we deliver care, communicate, and support our patients throughout every step of their healthcare journey.
A fully integrated EMR will seamlessly connect our ambulatory and acute care services, ensuring that providers have the most accurate, up-to-date information at their fingertips. This means fewer delays, reduced duplication of tests, and more coordinated treatment plans. For our patients, it means a safer, smoother, and more personalized care experience—whether they are visiting a clinic, admitted to the hospital, or transitioning home.
The Community Works Project is a significant and complex undertaking, managed by Oracle Health in close collaboration with the HUH IT Department and HealthNET Consultants.
The new EMR also strengthens our ability to measure outcomes, meet the highest regulatory standards, and harness data to improve health equity. It empowers our teams to work together more effectively and equips us to address the unique needs of our community with precision and compassion.
This is a defining step forward—one that honors our mission, embraces innovation, and reaffirms our promise to deliver quality, equitable care to every patient who entrusts their health to Howard University Hospital.
My vision for the HUH EMR Community Works Project is to create a unified, reliable, and innovative electronic health record system that seamlessly connects our ambulatory and acute care environments. This integration will empower our providers with the tools and information they need to deliver exceptional, coordinated care throughout every stage of the patient journey.
The Black Panther Wakandan theme is the perfect representation of our journey—symbolizing strength, innovation, unity, and a forward-looking vision rooted in cultural pride. Just as Wakanda blended advanced technology with a deep respect for heritage, our new EMR will combine cutting-edge capability with our longstanding mission of service, equity, and excellence.
By ensuring full compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements, we will strengthen our commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence—building a platform that supports our mission and advances the future of healthcare at Howard University Hospital.
